My photo show of documentary photos from when I lived in Japan ’01 – ’03 is complete and in place at the Blue Heron Gallery in Volant, PA. It’s been a busy last few weeks what with show preps and the holidays to boot, but I think it came out really well. Initial comments have been very positive so far, so it’s a bit of a relief. Although this isn’t auto related, I’m still very proud and happy to be able to share these photos with the public, not so much for art’s sake, but more as an educational experience. Very few people will ever get an intimate look at Japan that doesn’t include common pop-culture references found in the current Western media, so this I hope will be an eye-opener and provoke further exploration into the country and its people.

If you would like to see the show, it’s running from today, 1/4, to 2/26 at the Blue Heron Gallery in Volant. It’s completely free unless you’d graciously like to purchase a print or souvenir, and the opening reception will be this Saturday, 1/8, from 2p-4p. I’d love for you to come by, say hi and view the photos. My wife also has some of her Japanese sashiko needlework on display, as well as I’ve brought some of the pottery I created when I was a student in Osaka from ’99 to ’00. I think you will enjoy the photos, and I’m looking forward to meeting everyone who’s kind enough to visit.

It’s the first time we’ve ever been there and I have to say, it’s a wonderful attraction and worth the time to go and visit. Of course, I took a camera with to document the visit and naturally got quite a few flower shots. Yeah, they’re totally cliche and what not, but they’re still fun to shoot and the flowers are beautiful, cliche or not, so I indulged. Since it’s always best to indulge with friends, here’s my faves from the day. If you ever get a chance to go, definitely it’s worth the effort.
